This past week Jolene and I took some time off for ourselves. We turned many weddings away, just so that we could take a vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii. We stayed at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa. It’s a beautiful hotel, just make sure to get a full ocean view, as when they say partial view, it really means two inches of beach view. To be honest, the big Island is not what I expected. The beaches are great, I’m sure you would have guessed. There are so many different varieties. Black sand beaches, green sand, and of course the norm. The island is covered in volcanic rock (volcano’s duh), has very low speed limits, countless unmarked cops to give you tickets if you go over 45 in a straight away that you can see 10 miles ahead, and rained the entire time we were there. It is different than what you expect on other islands. The main thing I didn’t expect is how much driving it takes to see everything. You’ll spend hours driving just to get to see one location that you may spend a short while at. If you enjoy beaches, then you can spend your time there. We went scuba diving and snorkeling numerous times. Snorkeling there is great. You’ll have to see the manta rays if you have time. Scuba diving with them is surreal.
We also traveled to the big island to make some new connections. It is our goal in the next few years to expand as destination photographers and videographers. In some time we shall be returning to Hawaii for weddings as a Big Island Wedding Photographer and more specifically in the town of Kona.
The following are some photos we took while there on our vacation.
