Today is the darkest day in 372 years. Not only is it winter solstice, but also at 12:17 a.m. we had a full lunar eclipse. Those fortunate to have clear weather were able to see this once in a lifetime event. Fortunately for us in Sacramento, we were one of the fortunate. It had been raining all day, but luckily in the evening the clouds began to clear. Thus giving us the opportunity to be able to see it.
For those of you who don’t know, the Winter Solstice marks the beginning of winter, and is the shortest day of the year. Combine the winter solstice with a full moon that is eclipsed by the earth, you get a day like today.
Luckily I am Sacramento Photographer, and thus my knowledge of photography helped me capture this moment. The following is a few shots that we took of the event.

Very cool! The colour of the moon makes is seem very spooky. Bet ut would make a really nice large print.
